Burleigh-Morton Behavioral Health Coalition Student Committee is collaborating with several Bismarck pizza businesses for the Sticker Shock Project. This initiative aims to raise awareness about the consequences of providing alcohol to minors.
The project involves placing stickers on pizza boxes, featuring messages directed at adults. These messages highlight underage drinking laws, potential penalties for supplying alcohol to minors, and reminders about proper alcohol storage at home. Violations can lead to fines up to $3,000 and a year in jail.
Bismarck's rates of underage drinking are notably high. The 2023 ND Youth Risk Behavior Survey reports that 25% of Bismarck-Mandan High School students consumed alcohol in the past month, compared to 20% statewide. "Underage drinking is a community concern. The most effective way to tackle it is through collective involvement and active participation from everyone," said Madison Peterson, SAP Intern with BBPH.
Participating partners include Amici Pizza, A&B Pizza – South, CraftCade, Blaze, Bruno’s, Dominos – North and South locations, Happy Joes, Little Caesar’s – South, Nardello’s, Papa Murphy’s – North and South locations, and Pizza Ranch.
