Senator John Hoeven, who serves on the Senate Defense Appropriations Committee, issued a statement following the Senate Democrats' decision to block the consideration of the Defense Appropriations Bill. The bill includes funding for the military, a pay raise for troops, and support for essential military operations.

Hoeven criticized the move by Senate Democrats, stating: “Not only are Senate Democrats refusing to pass a clean, short-term continuing resolution to open the government, now they are blocking consideration of the individual appropriations bills. This legislation would fund a military pay raise and support servicemembers’ families, while providing support for vital defense missions, including in North Dakota. It makes no sense to block national security funding. We’ll continue working to overcome Senate Democrats’ obstruction, so we can get government back open and get back to regular order.”

The blocked legislation was intended to address defense priorities and ensure continued support for military personnel and their families.
