Bismarck Burleigh Public Health (BBPH) is collaborating with Heartview to offer free Narcan training sessions. These sessions are scheduled for January 22nd at 6:30 p.m. and will take place at BBPH's new building located at 407 S. 26th St.
Cathy Palczewski, Opioid Treatment Program Case Manager, emphasized the importance of these trainings by stating, “Training our community, and workplaces in the use of Narcan is an important life-saving solution. Safe communities are strong communities. Heartview Foundation is happy to partner with BBPH because this training helps both value people’s lives and saves people’s lives.”
The training will educate participants on recognizing opioid overdoses and correctly administering Narcan. Each participant will receive a free Narcan kit upon completion. Registration is required and can be done by calling (701) 355-1597 or visiting https://www.eventbrite.com/e/free-narcan-training-january-22nd-tickets-1112659908739?aff=oddtdtcreator. Narcan is a medication that temporarily restores breathing during an overdose caused by fentanyl or other opioids. Susan Kahler, SAP Coordinator, explained the objective of the training: “Our goal is to train the public on signs and symptoms of an overdose, the immediate actions they should take to get first responders to the scene and steps to stabilize and potentially revive an individual who has overdosed.” BBPH funds these trainings through State Opioid Response Grants.
For those interested in attending or hosting future Narcan training events, Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health can be contacted at (701) 355-1597 for further information.
