The city of Mandan has announced that drafts of updated zoning and development ordinances are now available for public review. The revisions aim to modernize regulations and align them with community priorities and plans, as said in a news release on February 5, 2025.
According to the City of Mandan, the drafts for its updated Zoning Ordinance, Subdivision Ordinance, and Right-of-Way Ordinance are designed to improve clarity, efficiency, and alignment with long-term growth objectives. The revisions address key sections of Mandan’s Code of Ordinances and were developed with input from over 600 contributors, including residents, business owners, and stakeholders. The updates introduce new zoning districts, revised roadway and parking standards, and strengthened landscaping and park dedication requirements. Public feedback on the proposed changes is open until March 14, with adoption expected in spring 2025.
The proposed ordinance updates streamline approval processes, standardize terminology, and address barriers to development. Highlights include consolidating approval procedures into a single chapter, reducing Commission review requirements for certain applications, and creating new zoning districts to meet diverse development needs. Additional changes include revised right-of-way width standards, improved residential zoning options, and updates to traffic flow management. Engagement sessions for contractors, developers, and builders are planned throughout February and March.
"This update has been a truly collaborative effort," said planner Andrew Stromme. "Zoning reform is essential for fostering sustainable growth while preserving Mandan’s unique character. These changes will streamline processes and make the ordinances more user-friendly for everyone involved."
