Gov. Kelly Armstrong has issued an executive order waiving hours of service requirements for drivers transporting propane and other petroleum products in North Dakota. This decision comes as the state faces extremely cold temperatures, with Bismarck's forecasted low reaching approximately 40 degrees below zero.

The waiver addresses the state's current low inventories of propane and other petroleum products, which have been affected by severe weather conditions and increased demand for heating fuel. The executive order highlights that "the lack of adequate heating fuel poses an immediate risk to public health, safety and welfare."

By lifting these restrictions, carriers can avoid delays in delivering essential heating fuels to customers across the state. The waiver is effective immediately and will last for 30 days. Despite this change, all road safety and vehicle compliance regulations remain in effect.

The full text of the order is available online.
