Gov. Kelly Armstrong has ordered that all U.S. and North Dakota flags be flown at half-staff from today through sunset on Sunday, Aug. 31. The action is intended to honor the victims of a shooting that occurred at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis.

Armstrong also encouraged residents and businesses across North Dakota to lower their flags as a sign of respect for those affected by the incident.

“Kjersti and I are heartbroken for our neighbors in Minnesota and praying for the victims of the unspeakable act of violence at Annunciation Catholic School and their families,” Armstrong said. “We are grateful for the first responders and medical professionals caring for the victims.”

The directive follows a proclamation issued by President Donald Trump.
