Applications are now open for the 2025 Mandan Business Pitch Challenge, offering entrepreneurs a chance to present their business ideas to local judges. The event provides an opportunity for business development experiences and a forgivable loan as a prize. Applications close on August 22, with presentations scheduled for October 15.

“This is a great opportunity for entrepreneurs seeking to launch their business or for existing companies who want to expand,” says Noah Vroman, Business Development Coordinator at the Bismarck-Mandan Chamber Economic Development Corporation (EDC). “Competing in the challenge is valuable, but so are the learning and development aspects that come with it.”

The competition is organized by the City of Mandan with support from the Bismarck-Mandan Chamber EDC and the North Dakota Small Business Development Center (SBDC). The SBDC provides resources to help participants grow their businesses.

Entrepreneurs interested in participating must submit an application to the City of Mandan Communications Department and meet with the SBDC to review their business plans. Participants will work on their presentations throughout the summer before presenting them on October 15.

“This is a great event for anyone who wants to take the next step in their business,” says Vroman. “Regardless of where they are in the process, they can evolve and grow in the Mandan area.”

Participants have ten minutes to impress local judges, who will score presentations based on various criteria including creativity, innovation, market fit, and public benefits.

“The community is excited for these new businesses,” says Vroman. “And that excitement transfers into people providing support and buying from these startups.”

The challenge aims to strengthen small businesses and startups in Bismarck-Mandan, supporting local economic growth.

“Growing businesses and investing in entrepreneurship keep the local side of the city growing,” says Vroman. “Having those main street shops is important.”

Vroman encourages entrepreneurs developing their ideas to start their businesses in Mandan due to its supportive community and resources.
