Grape and Wine Advisory Committee meeting set for July to discuss funding requests

The Grape and Wine Advisory Committee is scheduled to convene at 10 a.m. CST on Friday, July 11, 2025. The meeting will take place in the conference room of the North Dakota Department of Agriculture, located on the 14th floor of the State Capitol in Bismarck.

Those interested in joining via call can contact Michelle Mielke for call-in information before the meeting starts at 10 a.m. CST on the same day.

The agenda includes presentations from various organizations and projects seeking funding. At 10:20 a.m., representatives from NDSU's North Central Research Extension Center in Minot will discuss their project on grape trellis systems with a total project cost and requested funding both set at $70,000.

Following this, at 10:40 a.m., 4e Winery from Mapleton will present virtually about their rural tourism campaign aimed at promoting North Dakota wine. They are requesting $11,440 out of a total project cost of $16,440.

At 11:00 a.m., Sawyer Crossing Vineyard and Winery from Sawyer will discuss their Souris Valley Frontenac Blanc Development Project. This project has a total cost of $278,620 with $70,000 requested in funding.

After a break at 11:20 a.m., NDSU from Fargo will present virtually at 11:40 a.m. about developing grapevine resilience to temperature fluctuations, seeking full funding for their $69,991 project.

The afternoon session begins with lunch on your own followed by presentations starting at 1 p.m. The North Dakota Grape & Wine Association from Dickinson will talk about marketing and promotion efforts requiring full funding of $22,510.

Dakota Vines Vineyard and Winery from Colfax will present at 1:20 p.m. about strategic marketing expansion with half of their $11,500 budget requested as funds amounting to $5,750.

At 1:40 p.m., the Winery Association of North Dakota (WAND) based in Fargo will seek $17,000 for its statewide marketing initiative out of an overall budget of $19,500.

The final presentation before another break is scheduled for 2 p.m., where representatives from the 202 Brix Winery in Williston will discuss advancing cold-hardy grape research with an ask of $110,000 against their total project cost of $120,000.

Funding decisions are expected to be made following these discussions starting at 2:40 p.m.
