North Dakota Health and Human Services (HHS) has formed a partnership with Providence House Minot to increase access to residential substance use disorder treatment for pregnant and parenting women in the state. The new Pregnant and Parenting Women program, which began on September 1, offers a residential setting where mothers can receive addiction treatment while living with their children.

The initiative is designed to address barriers that prevent many women from seeking help due to concerns about being separated from their children. Morgan Layne, executive director of Providence House Minot, said, “We are thrilled to announce the expansion of our women’s program to include both mothers and their children. This project will give us the much-needed space to create a safe, supportive environment where mothers can receive essential care while keeping their children close. By addressing this critical gap in North Dakota, we ensure that mothers will not have to choose between receiving the treatment they need and their children.”

Layne emphasized that the program aims to provide comprehensive recovery services while maintaining family unity. She noted her appreciation for HHS's involvement in making the project possible. “This is a major step forward in providing specialized support to pregnant and parenting women across our state,” said Layne.

Sarah Lavelle, HHS Behavioral Health Administrator, highlighted how the collaboration aligns with agency priorities by improving access to high-quality services for families. “Residential treatment that keeps mothers and children together can be a turning point for a family,” Lavelle said. “By combining recovery services with parenting support, we give families the best chance for long-term stability and well-being.”

Providence House Minot plans an open house event on Monday, September 15 at 10 a.m., offering facility tours and featuring a guest speaker at its location at 423 Main Street S in Minot.
