Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak has expressed her satisfaction with the strong response to the Request For Information (RFI) issued by her AI and Energy Working Group. The RFI, which sought insights on powering the future of artificial intelligence, received nearly 100 responses from a diverse array of stakeholders, including utilities, data center operators, energy producers, cybersecurity experts, and technology innovators.
"We knew there was growing interest in how to meet AI’s energy demands, but the depth and breadth of these responses exceeded our expectations," Fedorchak stated. She highlighted that the input from various companies not only provided smart solutions but also brought up important issues that had not been fully considered.
The RFI concentrated on three main areas: ensuring a reliable domestic energy supply for AI demands, strengthening the energy grid against cyber and physical threats, and advancing U.S. leadership in AI and energy innovation to outpace China.
Moving forward, the AI and Energy Working Group plans to review all submissions and conduct a series of roundtable discussions under Chatham House rules. These discussions aim to unite policymakers and industry experts to identify practical solutions for powering AI's future.
Fedorchak initiated the AI and Energy Working Group earlier this year with an emphasis on addressing AI's impact on U.S. energy policy. The group's objectives include supporting innovation, securing infrastructure, and maintaining American competitiveness.
