Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak (R-ND) took to the House Floor to honor WDAY Chief Meteorologist John Wheeler, who is retiring after a 40-year career. Her remarks highlighted Wheeler's long-standing service and dedication to providing accurate weather forecasts for North Dakotans.
Fedorchak noted that Wheeler joined WDAY in 1985 as the station's first on-air meteorologist. Over his career, he has guided residents through various weather conditions, including blizzards, floods, and droughts. "Since then, he’s weathered it all—guiding North Dakotans through blizzards, floods, and drought — always with steady insight," she said.
The congresswoman emphasized the challenges of being a meteorologist in North Dakota due to its unpredictable weather patterns. Despite these challenges, she praised Wheeler for being "a high-pressure system of calm and confidence."
As Wheeler approaches retirement, Fedorchak wished him well: "John, as you enter retirement, the forecast looks great! I see clear skies ahead." She concluded by expressing gratitude for his service: "Thank you, John, for helping us weather so many storms."
Wheeler will deliver his final forecast on May 16th.
