Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak (R-ND) and her Republican colleagues on the House Energy and Commerce Committee have advanced their section of the One Big Beautiful Bill. This legislation aims to enhance American energy independence, reduce regulations, and strengthen Medicaid for its intended beneficiaries.
"After 26 hours of debate, E&C Republicans just took a major step toward getting our fiscal house in order," Fedorchak stated. "This landmark package will help restore Medicaid to its original mission—supporting seniors, people with disabilities, and pregnant women—while cracking down on waste, fraud, and abuse. It reins in crushing regulations, ends Biden’s costly EV mandates, and puts a stop to Green New Deal-style slush funds. Importantly, our legislation gives America’s energy producers the tools they need to compete, grow, and make our nation energy dominant once again. This is a win for taxpayers, working families, and the people who power our economy."
Fedorchak criticized Congressional Democrats for their misleading claims about the Republican plan's impact on Medicaid. She pointed out that able-bodied adults under Medicaid expansion receive significantly more federal funding than those with disabilities in traditional programs. According to Fedorchak and data from the Congressional Budget Office, approximately 1.4 million illegal immigrants currently benefit from Medicaid.
During discussions on health provisions within the bill, Fedorchak supported measures preventing taxpayer money from funding abortion providers—a stance she described as morally significant for many Americans.
In environmental matters addressed by the bill, Fedorchak highlighted North Dakota's model for maintaining low utility costs while criticizing Democratic proposals for subsidizing intermittent energy sources at taxpayer expense.
The bill also includes provisions promoting cross-border energy infrastructure based on Fedorchak's earlier legislative efforts.
