Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health is calling on students, families, and schools to join in the celebration of National Bike & Roll to School Day on Wednesday, May 7. The event, which happens every year, is an effort to promote active transportation, healthy habits, and the creation of safe routes for children walking and biking to school.
"Biking to school gets kids moving and feeling good, but it also brings them together," said Katie Johnke, the Nutrition and Health Promotion Coordinator at Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health. "It’s a chance to connect with friends and build healthy routines that benefit both physical health and emotional well-being."
What started as a grassroots initiative to encourage physical activity has now become part of a nationwide movement. Bike & Roll to School Day emphasizes the joy and independence associated with active travel while bringing attention to safe infrastructure, reduced traffic congestion, environmental benefits, and the vital role of community-building.
Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health is inviting schools and community partners to join the initiative and contribute to raising awareness about making streets safer and healthier for everyone.
