The Northwoods League has announced its expansion into Richmond, Indiana, with a new team set to start playing in the 2026 season at Don McBride Stadium. This move aims to reintroduce high-level baseball to the Richmond community, featuring competitive games with elite college athletes. The team's name and brand will be revealed later.

A lease agreement was finalized in September 2024 between Richmond Community Schools, Richmond Baseball, LLC, and Northwoods League, Inc. This agreement has the possibility of extensions to ensure long-term collaboration. Ryan Voz, President and Commissioner of the Northwoods League, commented, “We are ecstatic to welcome Richmond to the Northwoods League family.”

Richmond has a rich history of baseball, having hosted several teams including the Richmond Roosters of the Frontier League from 1995 to 2005. The Northwoods League is looking to build upon this legacy by bringing top-tier talent to Richmond, with over 370 League players having advanced to Major League Baseball.

Richmond Community Schools Superintendent Curtis Wright expressed enthusiasm for the project, stating the benefits it brings to the community. “Bringing the Northwoods League to Richmond represents much more than just a game,” Wright stated.

The Richmond Baseball ownership group includes sports executives and other professionals involved in business, entertainment, and law. Notable figures include Matt Bomberg, a key leader within the Northwoods League structure, and Ryan Voz, who has been involved in the league for 26 years.

Players, fans, and the community can anticipate the arrival of the new team in 2026, promoting a spirit of unity and entertainment.
