Dickinson State University held an investiture ceremony for President Scott Molander on September 24, 2025, at May Hall’s Dorothy Stickney Auditorium. The event brought together university leaders, friends, and officials to mark the beginning of Molander’s tenure.

Gerard Hanson, a childhood friend of Molander from Crosby, North Dakota, spoke about their shared past and said, "It was an honor to celebrate this notable occasion with him."

Larry Havlik, who met Molander in Chicago during their first job out of college and has worked with him over the past two decades, stated: “It’s an honor to be part of this ceremony and to support him as he begins this next chapter.”

Brent Sanford, North Dakota Commissioner of Higher Education representing the North Dakota University System (NDUS), addressed the gathering. He remarked: “Today we celebrate not just the investiture of President Molander, but the reaffirmation of a vision. President Molander brings to Dickinson State University a leadership rooted in innovation and a deep commitment to student success. In a time when higher education must adapt and inspire, he stands ready to guide this institution with clarity and courage. Under his stewardship, I believe DSU will meet the challenges ahead and shape the future of this region and beyond.”

Danita Bye from the State Board of Higher Education (SBHE) congratulated Molander on his appointment. She commented: “In western North Dakota, we are blessed with a rare convergence of greatness — Dickinson State University, a beacon of academic excellence and leadership development; Theodore Roosevelt National Park, a living testament to resilience and conservation; and soon, the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library, a center for civic reflection and bold vision,” said Bye. “Today, as we invest President Molander with the leadership of DSU, we recognize a steward who understands the power of place and the promise of people. His strategic vision along with his commitment to cultivating leaders will echo across our state and nation. Under his guidance, DSU can be a national treasure that will shape character, inspire action, and elevate the frontier spirit that defines North Dakota."

Holly Gruhlke, Vice President of Academic Affairs and Provost at DSU who served as emcee for the event said: “It was an honor to serve as emcee for this historic occasion at Dickinson State University. Today’s investiture ceremony not only celebrates President Molander’s leadership but also reaffirms our collective commitment to advancing DSU’s mission, vision, and values. The enthusiasm and support shown by our campus community, alumni, and distinguished guests reflect the confidence we all share in President Molander’s ability to lead DSU into a bright and promising future.”

Afterward attendees gathered at a social event in the DSU Student Center in recognition of President Molander's new role.

The ceremony represented an important moment for Dickinson State University as it emphasized both continuity in leadership and ongoing dedication to its community.
