Business owners, community leaders, and elected officials gathered on March 14 for the annual dinner of the Bismarck-Mandan Economic Development Corporation (EDC). The event allowed stakeholders to review past efforts and set future goals.
Nathan Schneider, Vice President of the EDC, emphasized community partnerships as key to their success. "We are successful because of our community partners," he stated. "While our staff works incredibly hard throughout the year to grow the region, we wouldn’t be as effective without a team of supporters offering their time and expertise."
Governor Kelly Armstrong attended and provided updates on legislation affecting Bismarck-Mandan's business community. He also discussed projects that promise a brighter future for residents and industries. Among these were new workforce development programs aimed at addressing nationwide workforce demands, North Dakota's energy resources ranking third in crude oil reserves and production nationally, and agriculture's prominence in Morton County with Mandan leading in cattle production.
Brenda Nagel, President of the EDC, recapped 2024’s efforts where they supported 75 new or expanding projects focused on regional growth. These ranged from site improvements to quality-of-life initiatives. Schneider remarked on modern economic development's complexity: “It’s no longer just about recruiting businesses to create jobs. Modern economic development teams need to create healthy communities where people want to live."
The EDC welcomed Lee Pierce as its new Board Chair for 2025. Pierce aims to attract businesses by ensuring a strong workforce and favorable conditions like low-cost properties and utilities.
The EDC calls for involvement from business leaders and community members passionate about Bismarck-Mandan’s growth. They encourage participation in local meetings to stay informed about ongoing projects.
