The Bank of North Dakota was established in 1919 as a government-backed financial institution aimed at supporting agriculture and business. Despite early financial setbacks, including an $8.8 million loss on farm loans by 1936, the bank remained operational with state funding assistance. It is recognized as the largest automated mill in the U.S., thriving due to consistent state support, technological advancements, and adaptability to changing market conditions. The mill processes 140,000 bushels of wheat daily and contributes significantly to North Dakota's local economy.
