Bismarck Public Schools (BPS) has announced that the Bismarck School Board has approved a two-tier bus system, which is set to be implemented in the 2025-2026 school year. The announcement was made via a Facebook post on January 14, 2025.
According to BPS, the change aims to address ongoing transportation issues such as bus driver shortages and budget constraints. The new system will result in staggered school start times to improve efficiency. Under this plan, elementary students will be picked up and dropped off first, followed by secondary students. This approach is expected to reduce the number of buses and drivers required and potentially shorten bus ride times.
To ensure a smooth transition, BPS conducted extensive community outreach, including forums and feedback sessions with over 160 participants. In response to concerns raised during these sessions, the district is collaborating with local partners to support childcare providers and after-school programs in adjusting to the new schedule. As the routing process progresses, BPS will continue updating the community on finalized start and end times and further details about implementing the new system.
