The Bismarck State College Library is set to host the first of three BookTalk at BSC discussions on Sunday, January 5, from 1 to 3 p.m. The event will take place on campus but has been relocated due to water damage in Skogen Hall. Participants will now gather in the BSC Student Union Alumni Room at 1425 Schafer Street to discuss Jeanine Cummins's book “American Dirt.” The discussion will be led by Dr. Kim Crowley, an Associate Professor of English at BSC.

“American Dirt” explores the story of Lydia Quixano Perez and her son Luca as they escape cartel violence in Mexico. Their journey northward highlights themes of danger, heartbreak, and hope, providing a human perspective on migration. The book has received significant attention as it was featured in Oprah’s Book Club and chosen as a Barnes & Noble Book Club pick.

Following this session, BookTalk at BSC will continue with “The Beekeeper of Aleppo: A Novel” by Christy Lefteri on February 2. The series will conclude with a discussion on “Exit West: A Novel” by Mohsin Hamid on March 2.

BookTalk at BSC is an annual book discussion series organized by the BSC Library and is open to all without charge. It receives funding from the Warren and Rose Marie Henke Memorial Library Endowment along with support from the library itself. For more details about the upcoming discussions, interested individuals can contact the BSC Library via phone or email or visit their website.
