At approximately 8:09 pm on Thursday, June 1st, the Central Dakota Communications Center received a call for a fire in the basement of a home with all residents evacuated, located on the 1200 block of East Highland Acres Road. When the fire department arrived, they reported smoke coming out the basement and garage of the home.
The fire crew established command and confirmed that everyone was out of the house. Fire crews pulled fire hose lines to extinguish the fire. As additional fire crews arrived on-scene they assisted with fire attack, establishing a water supply, and checked for fire extension. When fire crew entered the home, they found heavy smoke conditions and low visibility. The seat of the fire was found in a basement bedroom and extinguished. After the fire was extinguished, the building was ventilated of smoke, an overhaul operation was conducted to find any remaining smoldering materials.
Six fire department apparatus and 17 fire fighters were dispatched to the scene. The Bismarck Police Department assisted with scene control. Metro Area Ambulance was on scene to provide medical support to the residents and aided in firefighter rehab. One firefighter sustained a minor injury, received treatment and was released. Fire damage was limited to the room of origin, and there was heavy smoke damage throughout the home. The occupant of the home has been displaced. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
