Bismarck State College (BSC) Theatre is set to open its new Live Event Venue with a production of “Hello, Dolly!” This marks the first time a performance will be held in the recently completed facility, located within the Advanced Technology Center on the BSC campus.
The musical, directed by adjunct theatre instructor Daniel Walstad, will feature updated scenic elements such as an LED screen and a new fly loft system. The cast includes both returning performers and newcomers from BSC.
“When selecting the inaugural musical for this extraordinary new space, we wanted something bold, joyful, timeless and brimming with heart,” says Walstad. “‘Hello, Dolly!’ is all that, and more. It’s a show about stepping into new chapters with courage, humor and a wink of optimism. What better way to open the doors of our new theater than with Dolly Levi leading the parade?”
Performances are scheduled for October 31, November 1, and November 6-8 at 7:30 p.m., with matinees on November 2 and November 9 at 2:30 p.m. An opening night reception will take place before the first show.
The production has historical significance for BSC; it was first staged at the college in 1978 under Jane Gray Stewart’s direction. Sheila Schafer played Dolly in that original production; she was married to Harold Schafer whose land donation helped establish what is now Bismarck State College.
“To return to this musical now, in a moment of transformation for the college, feels like a joyful reunion and a proud continuation of tradition,” says Walstad.
Tickets can be purchased online or at the door with discounted prices available for students and staff.
