Beginning Monday, October 27, westbound traffic on Interstate 94 at Exit 161 in Bismarck will move from a temporary exit ramp to a newly constructed ramp. This change marks the start of day and night work on the new I-94 west entrance loop.
Traffic control measures will be in place, and flaggers will help guide drivers through areas where curb, gutter, dirt, and concrete paving work are underway. Drivers should be alert for trucks entering and leaving Centennial Road north of the bridge.
The east half of Miriam Avenue is close to completion and is expected to reopen by Wednesday, October 30, depending on weather conditions. Once this section opens, northbound traffic on Centennial Road/Bismarck Expressway will shift from the southbound lanes onto the new northbound lanes. However, traffic will remain limited to one lane in each direction with left turn lanes available at intersections.
Motorists are advised to use caution while traveling through these construction zones and watch for workers and equipment.
The I-94 Exit 161 Interchange project began in spring 2024 and is scheduled to continue through summer 2026. The project aims to improve traffic flow by removing two left-turn movements and adding right-turn loops for more efficient travel. "NDDOT appreciates the public’s patience and cooperation as this essential infrastructure project moves forward," according to a statement from NDDOT.
