On September 23, 2025, Sitting Bull College officially opened its new auditorium, a 9,368 square foot facility designed to serve both indoor and outdoor events. The building features a Nana door system that allows for an open-door concept during warmer months and enclosed use in winter. The first event held in the space was the 2025 Fall Semester Student Summit.

The summit gathered students, faculty, staff, and guest speakers for discussions on academic support and student engagement. President Tomi Kay Phillips began the event by emphasizing the significance of the new auditorium as a space for learning and community. "The new auditorium is an important space for shared learning, and community strength," said Phillips while also providing updates about the college.

Student Government President Sierra Wessel introduced new officers and highlighted student involvement in upcoming activities. Kenton Walks offered an opening prayer focused on unity and hope for the academic year.

Attendees participated in team-building exercises aimed at strengthening relationships within the college community. Activities such as “Sweep the Tipi!” and collaborative tower-building with spaghetti and marshmallows were included to encourage teamwork.

Sami Claymore-Gates, Dean of Students, along with Baylee LaCompte from the Peer Mentor Program, presented SBC’s new Mentorship Program. The initiative pairs students with experienced mentors to provide guidance throughout their studies. "Both Sami and Baylee encouraged students to ask for help and take full advantage of the mentorship opportunities available," according to organizers.

Guest speaker Kristi Pflinger-Keller delivered a presentation on “The Fred Factor,” encouraging students to make positive impacts through commitment and service. After her talk, attendees had lunch together before hearing from Dr. Leah Woodke of United Tribes Technical College.

Dr. Woodke discussed findings from the Noel Levitz Student Satisfaction Survey and stressed how student feedback helps shape future improvements at Sitting Bull College. "Dr. Woodke and SBC Administration encouraged students to voice their thoughts and ideas," reinforcing that student input can influence college services directly.

The summit concluded with prize drawings for participants. Organizers expressed appreciation for all who attended: "Sitting Bull College wants to extend gratitude to everyone who attended and contributed to this successful event."

The opening of this auditorium marks another step in Sitting Bull College’s ongoing efforts to foster an inclusive environment supportive of student growth.
