The McLean County Highway Department is looking to fill several Equipment Operator III positions in Washburn, with the option to hire at the Equipment Operator II level for candidates who do not meet all qualifications. The department seeks individuals experienced in heavy equipment operation and interested in public service roles.

Successful applicants will be responsible for operating various types of heavy machinery, including motor graders, excavators, backhoes, loaders, and dump trucks. Duties include construction, maintenance, and repair work on county roads and infrastructure. Tasks may involve snow removal, grading, excavation, hauling materials, routine equipment maintenance, and safety checks.

Applicants should have prior experience in similar roles, a high school diploma, and a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with required endorsements. The base salary for Equipment Operator III ranges from $59,618.08 to $65,432.30 per year depending on experience. Those hired as Equipment Operator II will receive between $52,613.23 and $57,752.76 annually and can advance to the higher classification after meeting training and performance standards.

Benefits include fully employer-funded health insurance for individuals or families and participation in the North Dakota Public Employee’s Retirement System retirement program. Paid vacation and sick leave are also provided.
