The Gateway to Health community event will be held for the third year on Saturday, Aug. 23, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Bismarck. The event is co-sponsored by North Dakota Health and Human Services (HHS), Bismarck State College, and North Dakota’s Gateway to Science.

Participants who register can access North Dakota’s Gateway to Science at no cost during their selected two-hour time slot. The event will feature more than 25 exhibitors offering interactive booths and exhibits focused on health and well-being, with activities, games, and prizes available.

Among the highlights are a virtual reality headset demonstration provided by Job Service North Dakota, hands-only CPR training from the American Heart Association, as well as blood pressure checks and general immunizations offered by CHI St. Alexius Health. Attendees will also have the opportunity to try out Bismarck Aero flight simulators, experience the Vision Zero crash simulator, and visit the University of North Dakota’s Simulation in Motion - North Dakota mobile health professional education and training simulation truck.

Other organizations participating include Missouri Valley Family YMCA and Family Wellness of Bismarck-Mandan, the North Dakota Department of Environmental Quality, North Dakota Highway Patrol, Bank of North Dakota, Mandan Police Department, Metro Area Ambulance, Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health, Western Plains Public Health, and North Dakota State University Extension.

The HHS mobile medical unit will be present at the event. HHS staff members plan to provide information about emergency preparedness, disease prevention strategies, Medicaid child wellness visits, and behavioral health resources.

Krissie Mayer, HHS Community Engagement Unit Director said: “To achieve our vision of North Dakota being the healthiest state in the nation requires working closely with community partners to focus on prevention and early intervention and connecting North Dakotans to programs, services and resources that can meet their unique needs.”

Organizers encourage attendees to preregister by Aug. 21 at bismarckstate.edu/gatewaytohealth in order to reserve a preferred two-hour timeslot: either 10 a.m.-12 p.m., 12-2 p.m., or 2-4 p.m.
