Grants totaling $80,000 have been distributed to support research, promotion, and marketing efforts for the grape, fruit, and wine industry in North Dakota. The announcement was made by Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring.

“North Dakota’s grape and wine industry continues to grow and evolve,” Goehring said. “The research, marketing and promotion funded by this grant will help advance the industry and promote cold hardy grape growing and quality wine making.”

The grants were awarded to several organizations: North Dakota State University received $45,000 to focus on developing grapevine resilience to temperature changes; the North Dakota Grape and Wine Association was granted $15,000 for marketing and promoting the state’s grape and wine sector; Winery Association of North Dakota obtained $10,000 for a statewide marketing initiative; Viking Vines also received $10,000 to encourage cold-hardy grape production and agrotourism as well as supporting all wineries in the state.

A committee reviewed applications before making recommendations to the Agriculture Commissioner. The funds are designated for use during the 2025-2027 biennium.
