Cass County is recognizing August as Emergency Management Awareness Month, aligning with the first-ever national observance launched by the U.S. Council of the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM-USA). The initiative aims to increase public understanding of emergency management and highlight the profession’s role in community safety.

As part of this effort, Cass County has introduced Cole Baker as its new Emergency Manager. Baker emphasized the importance of community involvement, stating, “Emergency Management Awareness Month is a great way for the community to engage with the Emergency Manager - and for the Manager to engage with the community. When it comes to disaster management we are all in this together.”

Emergency managers coordinate preparedness and response efforts before, during, and after disasters such as floods or blizzards. They work with first responders, health officials, government agencies, nonprofits, and businesses to ensure readiness across the county.

Residents are encouraged to learn more about emergency preparedness and ways to participate during August. Information is available at casscountynd.gov/emergency-management or through Cass County’s social media channels.
