The North Dakota Department of Transportation will begin work on the Highway 83 culvert replacement project in Minot starting August 4. The effort aims to improve drainage, enhance safety, and extend the life of the roadway.
The project includes replacing the existing structural steel pipe beneath U.S. Highway 83/South Broadway Street with a concrete box culvert. Additional improvements involve signal upgrades and resurfacing of the road.
Preparation for construction has already started. Currently, southbound U.S. 83/South Broadway is reduced to one lane. The U.S. 2 off-ramp to U.S. 83 is closed, and drivers are being detoured via the U.S. 2/U.S. 52 interchange, heading north on U.S. 52 and then west on U.S. 2 to exit at the U.S. 2/U.S. 83 interchange. Delays are expected during these closures.
Construction is expected to be finished by late October 2025.
