The North Dakota Industrial Commission (NDIC) has opened the application process for its new enhanced oil recovery (EOR) grant program under the Oil and Gas Research Program. The first deadline for applications is August 15, 2025. Submissions can be made via email at ndicgrants@nd.gov.
To qualify for funding, projects must show how they could create commercially viable EOR techniques that can be used across the Bakken play and other conventional reservoirs in North Dakota. The program will consider projects using CO2, hydrocarbon gases, natural gas liquids, surfactants, or other innovative injectant combinations.
The new grant program is supported by $25 million appropriated by the 69th Legislative Assembly through Senate Bill 2014. There may also be additional support available from regular Oil and Gas Research Program funds.
Grant rounds are scheduled as follows: the first round deadline is August 15, 2025; the second round is January 15, 2026; and the third round is June 15, 2026. Projects must be completed by June 30, 2027, and require matching private sector funds.
The Oil and Gas Research Council will continue to assist NDIC in managing this program. Details about their next meeting have not yet been set.
