Gov. Kelly Armstrong has appointed Andrew Eyre, a Grand Forks County Assistant State’s Attorney, to a judgeship in the Northeast Central Judicial District. The appointment will take effect on August 29.
Eyre has been with the Grand Forks County office since 2013 and has led the personal crimes team since 2019. His work involves cases of domestic violence, sexual abuse, internet crimes, and crimes against children. He also served as an adjunct faculty member at the University of North Dakota School of Law in 2014 and 2015.
Originally from Wausau, Wisconsin, Eyre completed his bachelor's degree at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse and earned his law degree from UND School of Law in 2013. He has conducted around 40 trials and handled about 30 appeals to the North Dakota Supreme Court. In recognition of his contributions, he received the Jim Vigness Peacekeeper of the Year award from the Community Violence Intervention Center (CVIC) in Grand Forks.
The vacancy for this judgeship arose due to Judge John A. Thelen's retirement effective August 1 after serving since 2015. Four attorneys were finalists for this position located in Grand Forks.
The Northeast Central Judicial District includes Grand Forks and Nelson counties.
