North Dakota's landscapes are set to transform with the arrival of sunflower season, beginning in late July and continuing into August. The state's Tourism Department has released the 2025 Sunflower Field Map, showcasing over 20 bloom locations. Visitors are encouraged to explore these fields and the nearby communities.
Keagan Lautenschlager, a sunflower grower near Kenmare, highlighted the collaboration between local growers and North Dakota Tourism. "Our state's sunflower fields are the gifts that keep on giving," he said. "This partnership between North Dakota's growers and North Dakota Tourism is stronger than ever, and we're excited to welcome visitors to experience the vibrancy, beauty, and uniqueness of these fields."
Sunflowers hold historical significance in North Dakota, introduced by Ukrainian immigrants in the late 1800s. Today, they symbolize both agricultural heritage and cultural pride.
Visitors are advised to respect private property while enjoying sunflower views. Photography tips include capturing images on cloudy days for vivid close-ups or during golden hours for wide-angle shots.
National Sunflower Day will be celebrated on August 2, 2025. Participants can share photos using #BeNDLegendary or #NDFieldFinders. Edible sunflower seeds will be available at select field locations such as Walcott, Langdon, Sharon, and Havana.

The map is updated weekly to provide current bloom statuses for those planning visits. Whether for photography or leisure travel, these fields offer a unique experience during North Dakota's sunniest season.
