The U.S. Air Force has put forward a proposal to modify the airspace structure of the Powder River Training Complex (PRTC) Military Operations Area in southwest North Dakota. The aim is to enhance military training operations and increase capacity for Large Force Exercises, supporting national defense objectives. An Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) is being prepared under the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) to assess potential social, economic, and environmental impacts.
The public scoping period runs through September 9th, offering an opportunity for input from aviators, airport managers, aviation businesses, and other stakeholders. This phase allows stakeholders to address potential impacts on flight operations and airspace access and advocate for alternatives or mitigations that maintain safety and efficiency.
Proposed alternatives can be reviewed online at www.PRTCairspaceEIS.com, where comments can also be submitted. The Air Force will host in-person public scoping meetings for additional information and feedback. Details are available on the project website.
The official public comment period ends on September 9th, 2025. Comments can be submitted online at https://www.prtcairspaceeis.com/comments/. Additionally, the North Dakota Aeronautics Commission seeks local feedback by August 20th via email at ndaero@nd.gov.
