The Cass County Commission has confirmed the appointment of Michael Cole Hunter Baker as the new emergency manager for the county. The decision was made unanimously during a meeting held on June 16. Baker, who will assume his new role on July 14, has been serving as an emergency management specialist with the Federal Emergency Management Agency since 2024. His experience also includes a tenure with the North Dakota Department of Emergency Services.
In May, the Commission established a panel to oversee the interview process and recommend a candidate for the position. This panel consisted of several key figures: Commission Chair Tony Grindberg, Commissioner Joel Vettel, County Administrator Robert Wilson, and Assistant Administrator and Human Resource Director Tracy Peters.
