Cass County has declared an emergency following severe summer weather that resulted in significant damage. The storms, which occurred on June 20 and June 21, included damaging winds, large hail, and possible tornadoes. This weather event led to the loss of life and widespread destruction across homes, grain bins, and commercial districts.

The ongoing recovery efforts may further impact public and private properties, including roads and rights-of-way. Additionally, the storm caused power outages and extensive damage to personal property and buildings. While assessments are still underway to determine the full extent of the damage, initial estimates suggest that costs related to debris removal, property repairs, cleanup operations, and ensuring public safety exceed Cass County's normal budgetary provisions.

In response to these challenges, the Cass County Board of Commissioners has resolved to declare an emergency. They have authorized the activation of the Cass County Emergency Operations Plan. This plan will guide recovery efforts by developing a detailed damage assessment and initiating relief measures aimed at reducing hardship for residents.

"The anticipated costs associated with debris and tree removal, property repairs, replacement, general clean-up and preservation of public safety exceeds the County's normal budget," stated officials from Cass County.

By declaring this emergency status, local government departments are empowered to implement appropriate relief strategies to mitigate the impact on citizens effectively.
