The U.S. Department of Transportation has allocated two grants, totaling $9,201,975, to the North Dakota Department of Transportation. These funds come from the Federal Highway Administration’s Emergency Relief Program. The program is designed to support state and local resources in managing significant expenses due to extraordinary conditions.

The majority of the funding, amounting to $8,946,150, will be used for repairs following severe flooding in Eastern North Dakota on April 12, 2022. This event caused widespread damage including culverts and roadway erosion on both state and county roads.

An additional $255,825 is designated for addressing damages from another flooding incident that occurred on April 10, 2023. This overland and riverine flooding resulted in a landslide as well as damage to culverts and roadways.

These grants aim to assist in restoring infrastructure affected by these extreme weather events.
