The City of Mandan has announced that WBI Energy will undertake a pipeline upgrade, necessitating the closure of Eighth Avenue NW and 24th Street. The project involves replacing a 12-inch gas line with a 16-inch line.
According to a press release, part of the pipeline replacement will occur just west of Mandan High School on Eighth Avenue NW. To ensure safety and efficiency, WBI Energy has planned staggered road closures: Eighth Avenue NW will be closed starting May 27 for approximately three weeks, while 24th Street NW will close on June 16 for about one week.
The closures are scheduled to begin after the regular school year ends on May 23 but coincide with the start of summer school on May 27. As one closure affects part of the school's bus loop, it may impact transportation services. The City of Mandan’s Engineering Department coordinated with the Mandan Public School District, which agreed to the schedule provided that work remains within the planned dates. The project primarily uses boring to install pipelines underground, minimizing disruption to the newly paved section of Eighth Avenue NW. Drivers are advised to consider alternate routes and exercise caution near work zones.
The Engineering Department is responsible for city-wide engineering and planning functions, including managing Water and Wastewater Treatment Plants, supervising staff, designing projects, overseeing traffic operations, and providing technical support. It also acts as a liaison on infrastructure matters. The department's webpage offers information on bids, road and sidewalk projects, construction standards, stormwater and pollution control measures, mapping resources, traffic features like roundabouts, and frequently asked questions. Contact details are available for City Engineer Jarek Wigness and Assistant City Engineer Riley McAdoo-Roesler at City Hall in Mandan.
