The Bismarck Veterans Memorial Public Library is gearing up for its 2025 Summer Reading Kickoff, themed "Color Our World." The event, open to all ages, will be held on May 28 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at the library's plaza. It promises a range of activities designed to engage and entertain participants.

Attendees can look forward to hands-on science experiments presented by North Dakota’s Gateway to Science and dance performances by Northern Plains Dance. There will also be animal artifact encounters courtesy of Dakota Zoo and creative exploration with the Burleigh County Library’s Bookmobile. In addition, Luigi’s Ice Cream Truck will be available for those wishing to purchase a treat.

A highlight of the event will be readings by celebrity guests First Lady Kjersti Armstrong and Mayor Michael Schmitz. The kickoff marks the beginning of the Summer Reading Challenge where participants can start logging their reading minutes.

The theme for this year's challenge, “Color Our World,” emphasizes art and creativity. Participants are encouraged to track their reading through Beanstack, earn badges, and complete various activities throughout the summer. The aim is not only to promote reading but also to inspire artistic exploration and learning.

Traci Juhala, Head of Youth Services at Bismarck Veterans Memorial Public Library, can be contacted for more information about the event.

Kevin R. Tengesdal serves as the Public Information Specialist for the library.
