The Bismarck Veterans Memorial Public Library is set to host its 2025 Summer Reading Kickoff, an event designed for all ages. Scheduled for May 28, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., the event will take place at the library's plaza.

Attendees can look forward to a variety of activities. These include hands-on science experiments with North Dakota’s Gateway to Science, dancing sessions with Northern Plains Dance, and animal artifact encounters courtesy of Dakota Zoo. The Burleigh County Library’s Bookmobile will also be present for creative exploration.

In addition to these activities, there will be sidewalk chalk games, music, and crafts available. Luigi’s Ice Cream Truck will offer treats for purchase. Special guest readers First Lady Kjersti Armstrong and Mayor Michael Schmitz are expected to attend.

The event marks the beginning of the 2025 Summer Reading Challenge titled “Color Our World.” This challenge encourages participants of all ages to engage in reading while celebrating art and creativity. Using Beanstack, participants can track their reading progress throughout the summer, earning badges and prizes along the way.

The event is free and open to everyone. Media representatives are welcome to attend as well.

For further details, interested parties can contact Traci Juhala, Head of Youth Services at Bismarck Veterans Memorial Public Library.
