Gov. Kelly Armstrong has instructed all government agencies in North Dakota to lower the United States and state flags to half-staff on Thursday, May 15. This action is part of the observance of national Peace Officers Memorial Day. Armstrong also encourages residents and businesses across North Dakota to follow suit.
The directive aligns with a proclamation from President Donald Trump, which designates May 11-17 as national Police Week.
In addition to this gesture, Gov. Armstrong will participate in a memorial service for peace officers at the State Capitol's Memorial Hall at 7 p.m. on Thursday. Attorney General Drew Wrigley and Supreme Court Justice Douglas Bahr will join him in delivering remarks during the event. The service will honor North Dakota’s 69 fallen peace officers, and the Capitol windows will be illuminated with a "Thin Blue Line" to pay tribute to law enforcement officers past and present.
