The US National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for May 12, 2025, effective until 9 PM. This warning applies to the Bismarck area due to high winds and low relative humidity. The Red Flag Warning signifies critical fire weather conditions where fires can start quickly, spread rapidly, and burn intensely. Smaller fires can develop into high-intensity burning faster under these conditions.

The Bismarck Fire Department has reminded city residents that additional burn restrictions are in place when such warnings are issued. These restrictions apply when the fire danger index reaches "Very High" or "Extreme" levels. Under these circumstances, all recreational burning is banned. This includes outdoor fire pits, fireplaces, portable outdoor fireplaces, and chimineas.
