Bismarck Burleigh Public Health (BBPH) is collaborating with Heartview to offer free Narcan training sessions. The event is scheduled for May 14, 2025, at 6:30 p.m. and will take place at BBPH's new building located at 407 S. 26th St.
Cathy Palczewski, Opioid Treatment Program Case Manager, expressed the significance of the training by stating, “Training our community, and workplaces in the use of Narcan is an important life-saving solution. Safe communities are strong communities. Heartview Foundation is happy to partner with BBPH because this training helps both value people’s lives and saves people’s lives.”
The session aims to educate participants on identifying opioid overdoses and correctly administering Narcan. Attendees will receive a free Narcan kit upon completion. Registration for the event is mandatory and can be done by calling (701) 355-1597 or visiting https://www.eventbrite.com/e/1348630232329?aff=oddtdtcreatorRegistration. Spaces are limited.
Narcan serves as a temporary remedy to restore breathing during an overdose involving fentanyl or other opioids. Susan Kahler, SAP Coordinator, explained the goal of the initiative: “Our goal is to train the public on signs and symptoms of an overdose, the immediate actions they should take to get first responders to the scene and steps to stabilize and potentially revive an individual who has overdosed.” Funding for these training sessions comes from State Opioid Response Grants.
For those interested in attending or hosting future Narcan training events, further information can be obtained by contacting Bismarck-Burleigh Public Health at (701) 355-1597.
