Congresswoman Julie Fedorchak of North Dakota visited Midland, Texas, with fellow House Energy and Commerce Committee member Representative August Pfluger. The purpose of the trip was to meet with Scott Mason, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Regional Administrator, engage in an oil and gas site visit, and participate in a roundtable with energy producers from the Permian Basin, local leaders, stakeholders, and EPA officials.
Following the activities, the members held a press conference to discuss efforts by the Trump administration and House Republicans to reduce regulatory constraints affecting energy production in Texas and North Dakota.
“The Permian Basin is key to America’s energy security, and visiting the region with Rep. Pfluger offered a valuable up-close perspective on the shared challenges our energy producers face. Much like in North Dakota, innovation and growth are being held back by one-size-fits-all federal regulations that lack common sense,” Fedorchak stated. She also appreciated hearing from EPA Region 6 Administrator Scott Mason, who assured them of the Trump administration's commitment to clear energy regulations.
Representative Pfluger emphasized the importance of energy dominance and American energy's role in national security. He said, "Everything we do depends on energy dominance and the ability to produce affordable, reliable energy, and with President Trump back in office, the future of American energy has never been brighter."
EPA Regional Administrator Scott Mason expressed the industry's desire for sensible emissions and wastewater regulations, reflecting his willingness to work towards that goal. He acknowledged Representative Pfluger’s leadership in these matters.
The site visit included a trip to a Diamondback Energy facility, where advanced technology is used to capture methane emissions. Fedorchak praised this innovation, noting its similarity to practices in North Dakota. The press conference took place at the Arrington Building, where Fedorchak recognized Pfluger as an influential figure in Congress and a mentor on energy issues, emphasizing the value of firsthand experience in the field.
