The North Dakota Department of Agriculture (NDDA) has announced a Farm to School video essay contest for fourth graders in Bismarck Public Schools. This initiative aims to involve students in understanding the Farm to School program, which connects them with local food sources.

Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring explained, “The goal of Farm to School is to connect students with local food and give them opportunities to learn where their food comes from. The video essay contest will provide greater understanding of what the program means to students and gives them a chance to visit a local farm to see how it operates.”

Participants are required to submit videos addressing their interpretation of the Farm to School program. The winning classroom will be rewarded with a farm visit during the summer and will be featured in a state-produced video highlighting local Farm to School activities.

The submissions will be reviewed by NDDA in collaboration with the North Dakota Department of Public Instruction and Bismarck Public Schools local foods coordinators. All submissions are due by May 2, 2025.

For more information, participants can visit the NDDA website at www.ndda.nd.gov/F2SVideoContest. Inquiries can be directed to NDDA Local Foods Marketing Specialist Jenna Nieters at 701-328-2659 or via email at jnieters@nd.gov.
