The Central Dakota Communications Center (CenCom) is set to observe National Public Safety Telecommunications Week, marking the week of April 13-19. This annual event highlights the critical duties of telecommunicators who act as a vital link in emergency response efforts.
CenCom staff have been recognized by the CenCom Board, the City of Bismarck, City of Mandan, and Burleigh County for their dedication. The week-long observance is intended to acknowledge the behind-the-scenes efforts of telecommunicators who manage emergency calls and dispatch necessary services.
"Often unnoticed when an emergency arises, the professionals who answer the call, providing life-saving instructions and dispatch and support services to field responders, are the real unsung heroes. They work tirelessly behind the scenes to help keep our communities safe. This week is dedicated to them," stated Communications Director Mike Dannenfelzer.
CenCom operates as a partnership between Bismarck, Mandan, and Burleigh County. It employs 24 Communications Specialists, 4 Supervisors, among other staff, and manages 12 workstations. Data from 2024 show that CenCom handled 36,691 emergency calls and 166,401 total calls, contributing to 195,555 Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) events and fulfilling 84,409 service requests.
Additional details about CenCom and its operations can be found on its official webpage.
