Multiple pilots were recently recognized for their participation in the "Fly North Dakota Airports" Passport Program. This initiative, which started in 2011, rewards pilots who visit publicly owned airports in North Dakota, attend FAA safety seminars, and explore the state's aviation museums. The program aims to promote safety, encourage continuing education, and support local businesses and tourism by inviting pilots to practice approaches and landings across various environments.

The program features three award levels, with the Gold level being the most prestigious. To achieve this level, participants must fly to all 89 public airports in North Dakota, visit the Fargo and Minot Air Museums, and attend three FAA safety seminars.

Over the past year, twelve pilots reached the Gold level. These individuals received a leather flight jacket embroidered with the North Dakota Flying Legacy logo. They join 102 others who have completed the program since its inception, bringing the total number of Gold award recipients to 114.

The following pilots achieved Gold status in 2025: Josh Axt from Hatton, ND; Steve Bodin from Grand Forks, ND; Jonathan DeLone from Rochester, MN; Baily Hoff from Hazen, ND; Kyle Hoffman from Edmon, OK; Greg Johnson from Stanley, ND; Charlie Kalvoda from Mandan, ND; Thomas Sando from Williston, ND; John Seyler from Urbana, IL; Ryan Starkey from Grand Forks, ND; Noah Stevens from Minot, ND; and Jeff Zarling also from Williston.

The awards were presented on March 2nd at the Fargo Jet Center during the North Dakota Aviation Association's Fly-ND Conference. Kyle Wanner and Mike McHugh of the North Dakota Aeronautics Commission officiated at the event.

The program is supported by several organizations including the North Dakota Department of Commerce’s Tourism Division in collaboration with the North Dakota Aeronautics Commission, Airport Association of North Dakota, and North Dakota Aviation Association.
