The North Dakota 4-H Consumer Decision Making team from Cass County achieved an eighth-place finish at the 2025 4-H Family and Consumer Sciences National Championship and Conference. The event took place from January 15 to 18 in San Antonio, Texas, with teams from 13 states participating.
The competition aims to educate young individuals on making informed consumer choices. This year's categories included athletic wear, dental products, invitations, event venues, fast food, and coffee brewing. Participants were evaluated based on class placings, oral reasons, and a group think activity.
The Cass County team comprised Greta Olsen from Amenia, Grace Burchill from West Fargo, Jack Kram from Fargo, and Nora Severance from Hunter. The team secured the eighth position overall. Notably, Greta Olsen achieved the highest individual score nationally and placed second in class placings as well as fifth in oral reasons.
Olsen expressed her enthusiasm about the experience: “My teammates and I got together a couple of times a month to practice and improve our skills, and having such a dedicated team encouraged me to focus and push myself harder,” she said. “Earning the title of national champion will forever be a highlight.”
The North Dakota 4-H Foundation provided sponsorship for the team's participation in the national contest.
