The City of Mandan has released drafts for its updated Zoning and Development Ordinances, now open for public review. This initiative is intended to modernize the city's development regulations to align with best practices, community priorities, and Mandan’s future vision. The city is seeking assistance from local media to communicate this project to the public.
The updates aim to improve clarity, predictability, and efficiency for developers, businesses, and residents. Key sections of Mandan's Code of Ordinances being addressed include Chapters 101, 105, 109, and 115.
“This update has been a truly collaborative effort, involving over 600 contributors, including residents, business owners and stakeholders,” said Planner Andrew Stromme. “Zoning reform is essential for fostering sustainable growth while preserving Mandan’s unique character. These changes will streamline processes and make the ordinances more user-friendly for everyone involved.”
The public and stakeholders are encouraged to review the drafts and provide feedback by March 14. City staff are available to answer any questions regarding the drafts.
Drafts can be reviewed online at cityofmandan.com/zoningstudy or physical copies can be obtained at Mandan City Hall with advance notice.
This project follows recommendations from previous planning documents dating back to 2009 that highlighted the need for zoning updates to support the city’s continued growth and development. Stantec was selected as the project contractor in Fall 2023. The process has included community surveys, presentations, and multiple rounds of drafts.
The City invites all stakeholders and the public to engage with this important project by providing input on shaping Mandan’s future. For inquiries or comments, contact City staff at cityofmandan.com/planning or email Planner Stromme.
