The Burleigh-Morton Behavioral Health Coalition Student Committee has teamed up with several Bismarck pizza establishments to launch the Sticker Shock Project. This initiative aims to raise awareness about the consequences of providing alcohol to minors.
The Sticker Shock Project involves placing stickers on pizza boxes with messages directed at adults. These messages highlight underage drinking laws, the penalties for supplying alcohol to minors, and reminders for proper alcohol storage at home. Violators may face fines up to $3,000 and 365 days in jail.
Bismarck has been noted for its high rates of underage drinking, often exceeding state averages. The 2023 ND Youth Risk Behavior Survey revealed that 25% of Bismarck-Mandan High School students reported consuming alcohol in the past 30 days, compared to 20% statewide. "Underage drinking is a community concern. The most effective way to tackle it is through collective involvement and active participation from everyone," stated Madison Peterson, SAP Intern with BBPH.
