The Morton County Commission has implemented a Fire Emergency and Burn Restriction effective from January 28, 2025, through December 2025. This decision was made in collaboration with Morton County Emergency Management and based on recommendations from the Morton County Fire Chiefs.

The restrictions apply when the North Dakota Rangeland Fire Danger Rating is categorized as High, Very High, Extreme, or when a Red Flag Warning is issued. During these conditions, all forms of open burning are prohibited. The ban covers campfires, controlled burns such as wood piles and tree piles, cropland and agricultural burning, outdoor fireplaces and chimineas, aerial and ground fireworks, garbage and pit burning, charcoal and wood fire grills or smokers, smoking outdoors, as well as outdoor welding and hot work.

Individuals who need to conduct a controlled burn must notify State Radio at 701-328-9921 before proceeding. The purpose of these restrictions is to prevent wildfires and protect both lives and property.

Residents are encouraged to stay informed about daily fire danger ratings and adhere to all burn restrictions. For further updates, individuals can visit mortonnd.org/mortonfire or follow Morton County's social media channels.
