Armstrong nominates four students for prestigious service academies

U.S. Representative Kelly Armstrong has announced his nominations for four students to attend the U.S. Service Academies. The nominees include Colten Rau for the U.S. Naval Academy, Ange Asongkeng and Cooper Fjeld for the U.S. Military Academy, and Paul “PJ” Fleckenstein for the U.S. Air Force Academy.

“Colten, Ange, Cooper, and PJ have committed to serving our nation in the U.S. Armed Forces, and I am proud to nominate them to their respective service academies,” said Rep. Armstrong. “Their leadership, persistence, selflessness, and patriotism are admirable. I join their family, friends, neighbors, and all North Dakotans in wishing them the best as they represent our great state.”

Colten Rau is a senior at Fargo South High School and is involved in numerous extracurricular activities such as Varsity Football and Chamber Orchestra. He also participates in Air Force JROTC programs.

Ange Asongkeng attends St. Mary’s Central High School and moved from Cameroon to the United States in 2016. Her school activities include Student Congress and Science Club.

Cooper Fjeld is a senior at Minot High School with interests spanning from Greener Tomorrow to Hockey.

Paul “PJ” Fleckenstein studies at Fleckenstein Academy and joined the Civil Air Patrol at age 12. He aims to become a pilot flying F-22s.

For admission into the U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Military Academy, U.S. Naval Academy, or the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, candidates must secure a nomination from their U.S Representative or other designated officials.

Rep. Armstrong has officially nominated these four individuals to their respective academies where each academy's Admissions Board will make final appointment decisions.
